COMPASSION WITHOUT BORDERS

Compassion Without Borders: Non-Profit Animal Rescue Website Redesign

  • Utilized competitive analysis to determine what functions are best for animal rescues
  • Gathered research from user interviews
  • Developed user personas and journeys for key pain points

Stakeholder Interview

  • Found that ineffective sites were text-heavy and lacking pertinent information

User Interviews

  • Found most users struggled to reach goal pages such as donations and social media
  • Users responded well to the bright color scheme as well as the animal photos
  • Discovered that the site's current hierarchy led users away from goal pages resulting in high drop-off rates and confused users regarding donation clarity because of off-site links and partnerships
  • Developed user personas and journeys to display current user pain points and challenges
  • Created user goals in order for website clarity and function

Usability Testing

  • Designed, developed, and tested prototype through Lyssna and gained feedback regarding the functionality of the website redesign
  • Reported user motivation to donate at 71% and user motivation to connect through social media at 80%
  • Gained feedback that the site was easy to navigate and the UI components were engaging and not distracting

    • Found that users wanted a colorful UI so that it made the task management more "fun" to use

Lo-fi Prototype

  • Designed lo-fi pages according to research findings
  • Incorporated the want for an engaging UI based on user reviews and feedback by allowing users to customize interface color schemes
  • Ensured ability to prioritize importance of tasks and easily edit title, date, description, and make recurring
  • Made daily, weekly, and monthly views

Usability Testing

  • Created hi-fi prototype from the wireframes
  • Tested the hi-fi prototype with users and only interfered at the beginning to explain what was testable versus not
  • Users tested prototype on their phone to discover its usability
    • Users noted the colorful layouts as pleasing and enjoyable for a task management app
    • Easy to understand CTAs
    • Easy toggle views between daily, weekly, and monthly tasks
    • Included all essential functions
  • Process to delete apps were unclear
  • Some icons were unclear in their functions

Second Iteration of Hi-fi

  • Redesigned some icon buttons to be clearer and easier to function such as deleting and modifying tasks
  • Eliminated a "cross-out" feature and implemented a "gray-out" feature instead for easier usability
